Creating a packing list

How many times have you been on vacation, ready to begin a relaxing time, and had to run to the drugstore to pick up suntan lotion, razors or an umbrella?  Not only is this a frustrating use of time, it can also put pressure on your vacation budget.

I've found that creating packing lists can help avoid those frustrations.  All you do is create a list of items you would like to take with you for different types of trips.  For example:

  • Camping
  • Beach
  • Mountains
  • Grandma's
  • Work
  • Theme Parks
Each type of trip requires different items. For example, I've found when travelling to the beach or a humid location, that baby powder is nice to have.  In the mountains, I often want a poncho or umbrella.   We always need extra batteries for our kid's electronic games.

You can easily create checklists using Word, then store them in a computer file labeled "Vacations" or "Trips."  When you start to pack for your beach trip, simply print out a checklist, and start packing.  Or, you might print them all out at once, and put them in a 3-ring binder in page protectors.

Next post I'll share some of my favorite items to pack.

Grace & Peace,

Glynnis
