Tips for Being Resourceful

Today I've got a post running on At the Well about being a resourceful woman.  If you are visiting after reading that article, I bid you welcome.  If you haven't read it, hop over there when you have a chance.

Twelve years ago, God introduced me to Proverbs 31 Ministries.  I don't think I'd ever even read that passage (Proverbs 31) of Scripture before God plunked me in the middle of a group of women trying to learn its applications for today.  It didn't take long for me to understand God's reasons for doing that.

As I grew to love this passage of Scripture, I realized God had a message in it for women of today.  As the "ideal" wife is described in this book, we see a picture being painted of a God-honoring, family-devoted, productive woman.  She works with what she has to support the needs of her family.  In other words, she is resourceful.

Being resourceful takes  many forms.  To me, it means repairing not replacing.  Using leftovers instead of throwing them out.  Saving money on going out by being creative in the kitchen.  Learning something new instead of depending on others to help me.

The Internet has been the biggest help in all of these areas.  Instead of saying "I can't", I've learned that by typing in a question to Google, I can figure out almost anything.  I promised to share some of my favorite sites on the Internet.  Here they are:

Now it's your turn.  Leave a comment and share a website that's helped you be resourceful.  Make sure I have a way to contact you.  I'm offering to give away a year's subscription to the P31 Woman magazine on At the Well.  Leave a tip here, then hop over there and leave a tip to enter the contest.  I'll announce the winner on Thursday.

Grace & Peace,

Glynnis

  1. Many websites have been helpful to me, but for both purchasing local items and selling larger unwanted items we use: www.craigslist.org

Two of my favorite places to buy books are www.cbd.com and www.amazon.com. Great prices, quality and service from both.

  2. I have a few that have been helpful. One more recent is a blog (I want to read the book soon, but others are above it on the list): http://www.my168hours.com/blog/

We use Craigslist a lot. I used it a ton when we were getting out of debt and now that we are moving I'm going to start posting more as well as we are searching for needs.

My husband and I (well, when not 34 weeks pregnant) do a lot of home projects by ourselves and so we are relying on both the network and the website for DIY. http://www.diynetwork.com/

  3. I do the whole couponing thing. I started after we adopted our newborn in November and his formula ended up costing about 240.00 per month. Not to mention diapers, etc, and attorney's fees for the adoption. I have kept my receipts and will one day soon add up the savings but I know I am saving about 50 - 60% on each grocery bill. When shopping I always like to quote Proverbs 31...She sees that her trading is profitable and her lamp does not go out at night. How many times my husband has had to stop me from going to the grocery store at 11pm! Love your blog Glinnis! Lisa
